Bookkeeping Audit

Small business owners wear a lot of hats, making it hard to stay on top of what’s happening in our own businesses.

And nothing seems to fall through the cracks more often than bookkeeping.

New business owners often think that bookkeeping is just data entry… until the CRA calls.

Good financial management is the foundation needed to grow sustainably, and it begins with your bookkeeping.

That’s why we are excited to offer confidential Bookkeeping Audits for small businesses: the  proactive way to ensure your books are accurate, reliable, and compliant.

We do a deep dive into all of your accounting records to look at things like:

  • Bank accounts and credit cards are properly reconciled
  • Identify old and uncleared transactions and forced reconciliations
  • Run A/R Aging Summary to confirm it matches the balance sheet
  • Confirm the outstanding balance on all of your tax liability accounts
  • Ensure you don’t have any CRA “red flags” like an overinflated General Expenses account
  • And more!

A Bookkeeping Audit lets you rest easy knowing your books are done right.

Better Financial Planning & Decisions

Make it simple and easy to retrieve important, real-time data to make better business decisions.

Increase your profits by reducing expenses, taxes, interest, fees, and penalties.

Better cash flow planning so that you don’t spend money that isn’t there, so that you actually know your numbers.

Breeze through CRA Audits

A CRA audit gone bad can be very expensive. They are long, cost a lot in accountant billable hours to fix, and usually result in fines and penalties.

They may even result in additional audits: a difficult payroll audit, for example, can trigger a review of every other filing.

When your books are accurate and up-to-date, audits are fast, easy, and cheap.

Avoid Costly Errors

Paying a bill twice, missing payments and accruing interest or penalties, forgetting to issue or collect on an invoice, filing inaccurate taxes… these are some of the ways messy bookkeeping can cost you money. If you don’t pay attention to this, these errors compound and get more difficult and costly to fix.

But perhaps the most costly errors come when you submit wrong info to the government. They really don’t like that. They might even call you a fraud (as in the criminal definition).

Who a Bookkeeping Audit is best for:

If you are a small business that either 1) doesn’t have a certified bookkeeper or financial professional on your team, or 2) has a qualified bookkeeper, but just wants a second set of eyes to make sure everything is in order.

Spending Audit

Finally, an audit that makes you money!

Have you ever ripped apart your couch or car looking for spare change?
That’s kind of like what this is, except we’ll find a lot more than a few quarters.

What’s included:

  • A forensic deep dive into all your transactions
  • Review for unnecessary, duplicate, and inflated expenses
  • Review for unpaid invoices, missing invoices, and late payment trends
  • Review for unnecessary interest expenses, charges, and fees
  • Recommendations to decrease costs, increase revenue, and add more profit

How it works:

  1. Initial consult – we meet to review your goals, potential areas of concern, and collect the info needed to complete the audit.
  2. Review and Recommendations – once we receive your information, we begin our audit. After approximately 2 weeks, we provide our findings and recommendations.
  3. Follow-up call – After 3 months, we follow up with you to see how everything is going.
